The iCooked Sustainability Story

It’s all in the package

The team at iCooked are doing everything in our power to ensure your meal comes to you in the most sustainable way to ensure we are doing our bit for the planet whilst being as cost effective and managing affordability for you.

Lined Sugarcane Trays

One of the steps that we have implemented is the use of the Lined Sugarcane Trays. These innovative trays, equipped with a heat-resistant, recyclable lining, offer a world of possibilities in sustainability and convenience.

The Eco-Friendly Advantage

One of the standout features of these Sugarcane Trays is their eco-friendliness. We’ve taken great care to source these trays that align with the latest guidelines from the Australian Packaging Covenant Organisation (APCO).

Here’s what you need to know:

Recyclable with Heat-Resistant Lining: These trays are fully recyclable, thanks to their heat-resistant lining. It’s a win for the environment as it can be processed through regular recycling channels.

Compostable Option: Peel off the lining using the convenient peelable tab, and voilà – you have a compostable tray! After use, the tray can be composted, and the film can be recycled separately.

Aluminium Trays

"According to The Aluminium Association, 75% of all aluminium ever produced is still in use, thanks to recycling programs."

Delivery

Our delivery driver Emma always checks before heading out on the road a program to ensure she is taking the most economical route available.  The cardboard boxes that we deliver our products in are collected by Emma on the next visit or taken away after she has finished packing the meals into the freezer for our clients.

Rather than purchase our own vehicle for delivery to the broader region, we have partnered with The Farm Shop, who have room in their delivery vehicles.  This reduces the need to have their vehicles and a vehicle of ours (if we purchased one), travelling the same routes half filled.

Renewable Energy

As you can expect, it does take a bit of energy to keep our wholesome and delicious food frozen.  We are investigating what renewable energy options are available to us and equipment purchases are made with consideration of their energy ratings.

Waste

Our kitchens and warehouse have multiple bins which separate all our waste.  Any plastic bottles are collected for our local cash for containers depot that is just down the road.  Our vegetable and fruit scraps all go to the chooks at Bluevale Homestead (our source of quality grassfed beef).

We only ever cook in batch sizes that we know that we will sell.  We would prefer to sell out of stock than to have our menu items ending up in landfill.

Buy locally and in season

Where available, we try to purchase all our products and services locally.  When there is a seasonal over-supply of fresh goods, to help make use of this oversupply, we try our hardest to include them in our menu which enables us to pass on cheaper prices to our customers.  And most importantly, the product doesn’t end up in landfill.

In conclusion

Sustainability is important to all of us and our future generations. The leadership team at iCooked put a lot of effort into ensuring everything we do has a sustainability lens placed over it to see where we can improve in this very important area.
