Dietitian and Nutritionist certified high-quality aged care meals

We are often asked, mainly by the Aged Care Providers, if we comply with current aged care quality and safety requirements.  One of those requirements is to have our meals and menu assessed by a qualified Dietitian.  Below you will find Emma McIntosh of Healthy Lifestyles Australia's conclusion to her findings when reviewing the iCooked Autumn meals and menu.

"The review of iCooked’s Autumn menu demonstrates that the meals are nutritionally appropriate, convenient, and engaging for older adults receiving in-home aged care, as well as suitable for the general population. The menu aligns with multiple standards, including the Australian Guide to Healthy Eating, Dietitians Australia Menu and Mealtime Quality Assessment (MMQA), National Meal Guidelines (Meals on Wheels and University of Wollongong), and the Australian Government Department of Health, Disability, and Aging Meal Requirements for In-Home Aged Care.

"iCooked meals provide high-quality protein, balanced energy content, and clear
portioning, with flexibility in meal size and reheating methods to support client
independence. Menu labelling, seasonal variation, and sensory appeal contribute to
usability, engagement, and overall meal enjoyment. Even when consumed
intermittently, as is typical, with most clients using iCooked meals once daily or every 1 to 2 days, the nutritional quality of the meals helps support protein, energy, and micronutrient intake, contributing positively to older adults’ health and wellbeing.

Opportunities for ongoing improvement include reducing saturated fat, increasing
wholegrain and plant-based protein inclusion, expanding vegetable variety, particularly dark leafy greens and cruciferous vegetables, and incorporating themed or seasonal meals to enhance engagement. Implementing client education strategies, clear labelling of high-protein and high-energy meals, and gathering client feedback at the end of each menu cycle will further ensure that future menus continue to meet both nutritional standards and the preferences of clients.

Overall, iCooked provides a convenient, safe, and nutritionally appropriate meal service that supports the health, independence, and enjoyment of older adults in in-home care, while offering flexibility and variety to meet the needs of the broader client population."

This assessment will be conducted prior to the release of each of our seasonal menu's.  We are investigating any recommended opportunities for improvement and implementing what we can as a small locally produced artisanal kitchen.
