As World Elder Abuse Awareness Day came to a close on June 15th, we wanted to continue the important conversation around elder abuse prevention. At iCooked, we believe in promoting the health and wellbeing of all individuals, especially those in our elderly community.
Elder abuse can take many forms, including physical, emotional, financial, and sexual abuse, as well as neglect. It's crucial for all of us to recognise the signs of elder abuse and speak up when we suspect something is wrong.
Common signs of elder abuse may include:
- Unexplained injuries or bruises
- Fear, anxiety, or depression
- Sudden financial changes or exploitation
- Social isolation or withdrawal
- Poor hygiene or living conditions
- Lack of access to medical care or basic necessities
If you are experiencing abuse, or are concerned that an older person you know is at risk, call the Elder Abuse Helpline on 1300 651 192 for free, confidential information and referrals. Helpline operators are available between 9am and 5pm weekdays.
Together, we can create a safer, more supportive world for our elderly loved ones.
