As a mother of three, Megan Neilson knows how tough it can be finding time to cook healthy dinners night after night. One weekend, after successfully cooking five chicken and leek pies and five lasagnas,  Megan decided to turn her love of food into a business and that is when Cooked was born. “I love to cook, I love good healthy food and I love knowing that my family is eating well. Cooked fulfills all that I love, and hopefully makes my customer’s lives a bit easier too.”

Megan created her business to provide healthy, tasty meals to families that were too busy to make the nutritious dinners they wanted. The meals are made from local ingredients, delivered fresh and ready to cook at home. Megan’s passion for healthy food is carried through every dish on the menu, with all her produce sourced from local suppliers and not a preservative in sight. “I don’t know what emulsifiers and fillers are and numbers are foreign to me. I make all my sauces and curry pastes from scratch with natural, healthy and locally sourced ingredients.”

With the menu constantly changing, some dishes get requested time and time again. “The Butter Chicken and Lamb Ragout have proved to be our most popular dishes, people are always asking me to make more, but I love to experiment with new recipes. When I started the business I used to cook family favourites but now I love to source recipes from different sources. I have a million recipe books at home”

Cooked began in Megan’s home kitchen but has proved so popular that it has now taken over the North Toowoomba Bowls Club’s commercial kitchen.  Megan also plans to take Cooked and her meals to the Toowoomba Farmers Markets and the Handmade Expo Markets and we expect she will sell out.“I receive so many lovely texts and emails which is so rewarding that now I can’t image doing anything else.”
