My Mama was a prize-winning baker (although she would never have called herself that!) & baked cakes for all occasions in our hometown for over 80 years.
So, this year, we are making her traditional fruit cake recipe & sharing the joy of Christmas.
This is a traditional fruit cake made with a lot of alcohol. The alcohol helps to preserve the cakes and keep them moist.
Mama (being a lady) would never buy her own alcohol, she would send a son or grandson to buy the LITRES of alcohol needed for her cakes.
Serving Instructions
Store in a cool, dry environment in an airtight container. Slice & serve by itself or some vanilla bean ice cream or custard.
These cakes get better the longer you keep them, so don't be shy about buying one & eating it over a 3-month period.
